Professor Cao Dapeng from Beijing University of Chemical Technology Delivers Academic Lecture and Conducts Academic

Exchanges at Our University

News from Our Website (Correspondents: Zhang Dongsen, Chang Wandi) On the morning of June 24, Professor Cao Dapeng from the College of Chemical Engineering, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, was invited to deliver an academic lecture at the High-end Forum for the First-Class Discipline of Chemical Engineering and Technology. The lecture was presided over by Professor Xiong Qingang, Dean of the School of Chemical Engineering and Pharmacy.

Professor Cao Dapeng delivered a lecture titled Hydrogen Catalytic Materials and Devices for the Dual Carbon Goals. Centering on the major national strategic needs for the efficient utilization of hydrogen energy, he elaborated in depth on the catalytic mechanisms and material design of core technologies including hydrogen fuel cells and hydrogen production via water electrolysis. Starting with theoretical calculations of porous framework materials, he systematically illustrated how atomic-scale regulation can realize breakthroughs in the performance of hydrogen catalytic materials. He also shared his research group’s full-chain research philosophy spanning fundamental research to application exploration in non-noble metal catalysts, membrane electrode assemblies and other related fields. In his talk, he emphasized that the combination of theoretical simulation and precise experimental synthesis allows efficient screening and optimization of catalysts, which provides vital guidance for developing low-cost, long-life hydrogen energy equipment.

After the lecture, faculty and students actively raised questions, creating a lively academic atmosphere. Focusing on the paradigm of material design driven by theoretical calculations and key challenges in the industrialization of hydrogen energy, Professor Cao engaged in in-depth exchanges and discussions with all participants. He patiently answered each specific question raised by teachers and students concerning experimental design and paper publication. He also offered words of encouragement to young researchers: consolidate your mathematical and physical foundations and dare to forge ahead into uncharted territory in scientific research.(Reviewed by Yang Haibo, Yu Xianglin)
